Updates to Smule’s Terms of Service and Privacy Policy

We’re updating our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, effective December 4, 2026. Key changes include raising the minimum age to use Smule to 18 and explaining how Smule may use content to develop and train AI and machine-learning models and features, and may license de-identified content to business partners. Starting December 4, you can opt out of Smule’s AI training, licensing to partners, or both. By continuing to use Smule on or after December 4, 2026, you agree to our updated Terms of Service  and Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, you can choose to discontinue using Smule and close your account before the updated terms become effective. You can see a summary of changes and find answers to common questions below.

How might my content be used?

Smule may use recordings and other content to develop and train AI and other technologies, and may license content to business partners for similar purposes. Examples include technology that:

  • Separates vocals from instrumentals
  • Gives personalized coaching and performance feedback
  • Cleans up and enhances audio, such as removing background noise
  • Powers audio effects, such as pitch correction
  • Improves music discovery and recommendations

These are examples, not a complete list.

Will my recordings be used to identify me?

No. We don’t use your recordings to create a voiceprint to identify you, and our agreements with business partners prohibit them from doing so or from trying to re-identify you.

What does it mean that content may be licensed to business partners?

Smule may license content to business partners to help develop, test, and improve their technologies, products, and services, as permitted under our Terms. Specific uses may vary by partner and agreement.

How is my privacy protected?

Before content is licensed to business partners, we remove personal details such as your username, email address, and device ID, and our agreements prohibit partners from trying to re-identify you. Content used for Smule’s own AI training stays linked to your account, and access to it is limited.

How do I opt out?

There are two separate choices:

  • Smule’s AI training: whether Smule can use your content to develop AI and other technologies.
  • Licensing to partners: whether Smule can license your content to business partners.

Starting December 4, go to Settings > Privacy > AI & Data, in the Smule app or on smule.com, and turn off either setting or both. If you can’t access your account, you can opt out through our web form instead by selecting “Opt out of AI training or licensing” as the request type.

What content and data is covered by these updates?

All recordings, content and data you share on Smule.

Does this apply to recordings I’ve already shared?

Yes. The updates cover recordings you’ve already shared and recordings you share in the future.

What happens after I opt out?

Your opt-out covers all of your recordings on Smule, including recordings you shared before you opted out. Once it takes effect, none of your content will be used for what you opted out of, whether that’s Smule’s AI training, licensing to partners, or both.

Opting out doesn’t remove your content from AI training or licensing that already happened.

Does opting out remove my recordings from Smule?

No. Opting out is separate from managing who can see your recordings or deleting them. To change a recording’s visibility or delete it, see Managing your privacy and Deleting recordings.

What if my content has already been used?

Opting out or deleting a recording doesn’t remove your content from AI training or licensing that already happened. Content already used may continue to contribute to those technologies, products, or services.

What happens if I delete my content or my account?

Deleted content and accounts are removed from Smule under our standard deletion practices and are excluded from future training and partner deliveries. Deleting doesn’t undo uses that have already happened.

Can I change my mind?

Yes. Starting December 4, you can change either choice anytime in Settings > Privacy > AI & Data, in the Smule app or on smule.com. Your change applies from the time it takes effect.
