Juanes was born and raised in Juan Esteban Aristizábal Vásquez in Colombia who was known for being apart of an acoustic rock band known as Ekhymosis that he started when he was 15 after learning how to play the guitar. In the early 2000’s he began pursuing his solo musical career and launched his solo debut Fíjate Bien, which landed him three Latin Grammys: Best New Artist, Best Rock Solo Vocal Album, and Best Rock Song! Since then, Juanes has won 21 Latin Grammy Awards and 2 Grammy Awards and sold over 15 million albums worldwide! He is well known for his selfless advocacy acts.
He founded a non-profit in 2006 to help children exposed to violence in Colombia, holds benefit concerts for Colombia Without Mines, is a Goodwill Ambassador for the “United for Colombia” foundation, and founded and promoted the Peace Without Borders concert to ask for a farewell to the arms between Colombia and Venezuela.
Fun fact: In 2012, Juanes was a guest on “Sesame Street” for Hispanic Heritage month and he managed to teach Elmo some Spanish.
