Smule Local Meet Up 2015

Smule Local Meet Up 2015

smule local

Smule meet ups are very special to the Smule community because it forms another more tangible way of connecting people through music. Most Sing!ers sing, connect, and get to know each other through the app on Smule. Meet ups can make those connections stronger, and well they’re also just a lot of fun. But, with life being so busy, it’s not always easy to plan and get them going.

Soooo, we thought we’d give everyone a nudge and create a day for Smulers to organize and host a Smule meet up to celebrate singing and connections live and in person with other local users! The response was awesome!

On November 7th, 2015, Smulers all over the world got together to attend a local meet up, all on the same day. There were well over 1,000 participants who collaborated, sang, ate, shared stories, danced, etc. Over the course of the event, people took part in Smule meet ups in over 50 cities across Asia, USA, Europe and Canada!

Check out all the participating cities in the photo, continue organizing meet ups, and stay tuned for more large-scale Smule meet up events in the future!

“I had an amazing time meeting everyone. It felt like we’ve known each other all our lives. It didn’t matter if you’re young or old,  we all had something in common: we all love singing! Can’t wait for the next meetup!!” – Lester, UK

“It was because of the hard works of all coordinators and the cooperation of all participants, we succeeded in holding meet ups in up to 17 cities in Indonesia. So props to all of them smile emoticon” – Ariyanti, Indonesia

“I have met long time friends and friends for life from this meet up!” – Sara, Canada

Guitar Idol Winner Abby Rzepka has Performed Live with Kenny Rogers

Guitar Idol Winner Abby Rzepka has Performed Live with Kenny Rogers

Meet Abby Rzepka, also known to the Smule community as AbbyRose3. In addition to being this week’s Guitar Idol winner for her incredible performance of “Tennis Court,”Abby has two other distinctions.

First, Abby has the largest number of followers on the Smule network – about 161,400, more than even Austin Mahone, who has 133,400 Smule followers. One of Abby’s performances even caught Austin’s ear, prompting him to comment “this is great!”

Her popularity didn’t happen overnight. Abby’s recorded a staggering 1,371 performances on Sing! Karaoke and has been a VIP for two years – “basically ever since Sing! came out,” she said in a phone conversation with Smule. “I use Sing! all the time,” she said. “It’s good to hear your voice played back so you can tweak it. It’s really helped my singing a lot.”

The second amazing thing about Abby is that she’s sung live on stage with Kenny Rogers when she was 11 years old during his Christmas concert series, performing in front of thousands of people in three cities in the midwest, where Abby is from. In 2011, she took to the stage again after successfully auditioning with a Michigan B100 country radio station to sing the National Anthem at a country concert that also featured Hunter Hayes and the Eli Young Band.

What’s next for Abby’s? She’s auditioning to be in the music program of her college. Abby’s understandably nervous about the audition, but we have a hunch she’s going to nail it.

If you spend even few seconds listening to Abby’s winning performance of “Tennis Court” below, you’d agree:

Smule Nets Lorde’s “Tennis Court” for Sing! Karaoke and Magic Piano

Smule Nets Lorde’s “Tennis Court” for Sing! Karaoke and Magic Piano

Smule is thrilled to welcome Lorde to our catalog this week with “Tennis Court,” an electro-goth song inspired by the singer’s childhood memories of a tennis court in her hometown of Devonport, Auckland. The song comes from Lorde’s second hit single from her debut album, “Pure Heroine.”

“Tennis Court” debuts today in Sing! Karaoke by Smule, and tomorrow in Magic Piano. We invite you to sing it with us for a chance to have your unique performance of the songs be featured in our Guitar by Smule app and on Smule.com – where your voice can be heard by fans worldwide. Just follow the easy instructions at the bottom of this post.

Why a tennis court? Read on to find out.

The imagery alongside Lorde’s gothic visage, wry lyrics and ghostly synth beats seems incongruous. Lorde explains in an interview with VH1 that she invoked the image because of its nostalgic factor.

“It was something which was familiar and safe to me,” the 17-year-old New Zealand ingénue told VH1. “The rest of the song is about … all the changes in my life at the moment and the juxtaposition of that with where I grew up.”

The resulting track, which Lorde co-wrote with veteran producer Joel Little, was described as “intoxicating” by reviewer Jason Lipshutz of Billboard. Elton John told USA Today he felt the song was “one of the most touching, beautiful things on earth.”

What do you think of the song? Tell us by submitting your version of “Tennis Court” in Sing! Karaoke. Here’s how:

  1. If you are on an iOS device, just click here to start Sing!ing. If you are on an Android device, click here to launch Sing! Karaoke.
  2. Once you’ve aced your recording, add the hashtag #GuitarIdol in the song description.
  3. Upload your performance by our contest deadline on August 13 at Noon.

That’s it! We will notify the winner on August 15th and post the performance as the Featured Sing!er in our in Guitar! app.

The winning performance will also be available for millions of fans to listen to on Smule.com — the official home of Smule Nation.

Be Your Own Legend With “All of Me”

Be Your Own Legend With “All of Me”

When John Legend released “All of Me,” few except the singer himself expected it to be a hit.

It does not have a drum track. It was not considered “dance-able.” And aside from a piano track, it has no other instrumentals. It is a bare-bones ballad, a love song Legend co-wrote and dedicated to his then-fiancee, Chrissy Teigen, whom he’s since wed.

Yet, “All of Me” sold more than 4.2 million copies in the U.S. alone and has been on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in excess of 39 weeks. Legend explained in an interview with Billboard’s Gail Mitchell why he felt “All of Me” resonated with so many people, saying, “Every once in a while, you want to hear something that pierces your heart.”

That’s what you have been telling us as well – making “All of Me” one of the most requested songs of the year for Sing! Karaoke and Magic Piano by Smule.

Well, we heard you loud and clear! On July 16th, we added “All of Me” to Magic Piano. And today, July 20th, we are adding the song to Sing! Karaoke as well.

We’re kicking off the addition of our first John Legend song to the Smule catalog with a legendary Guitar Idol contest. The winner gets to be the Featured Sing!er in our Guitar! app, where their performance can be heard by millions of listeners around the world. Entering is easy. Just warm up those vocal chords, channel your inner soul singer and follow these three simple steps:

1. Fire up Sing! Karaoke and sing “All of Me.” You can record the song as a solo performance or as a duet.* If you are on an iOS device, just click here to start Sing!ing. If you are on an Android device, click here to launch Sing! Karaoke.

2. Add the hashtag #GuitarIdol to your performance in the song description.

3. Upload your performance by our contest deadline on July 30th, at Noon Pacific.

We will notify the winner on August 1st, and post their performance as the Featured Sing!er in our in Guitar! app. The winning performance will also be available for millions of fans to listen to on Smule.com – the official home of Smule Nation.
