Trending Topics on Sing!

Optimized-trend

Ever wondered what’s hot in the Sing! World? Similar to Facebook or Twitter’s trending hashtag/topics, Sing!’s new Trending Search Terms feature will let you check out what’s HOT right now with your community.

How does it work?

It’s pretty simple. Underneath the search bar, you will find up to 20 clickable terms sorted by popularity. Once you tap on it, it will take you to the source so you can find more information. These terms will be updated daily and custom to your language and country!

What trending topics should you expect to find?

Hard to say as some will probably happen out of complete silly-ness, but many topics could include a song title, partner artist, community driven challenges, trending topics happening globally, etc.

How to get on the trending list?

This is a new tool we just put in place, so we can expand on this in a future blog post. However here are some ideas:

  • Organizing weekly challenges or themes and building a community around it
  • Building communities around a theme (musical, cosplay, jazz, etc)
  • Group hashtags
  • New song releases
  • New partner artists

Tuesday Tips: Finding Groups

Finding groups in the Sing! community can be overwhelming- Where do I start? What should I look for? Where do I look?

“The fastest way I find groups are through user profiles. I get group hashtags and group Smule profiles that way and do further research from there.” –Ailina_

“Most people I like to sing with on Smule are in some sort of group and have the hash or handle right in their bio. You can def start by checking out the bios of those people you enjoy collabing with and go from there. Also by checking out the “recommended” and “Smule Pick” boards, you can usually find some really good singers involved in different groups.” –Alimone_sr

“Yes I agree. Check the bios of people you enjoy singing with. Check smule and vid picks, as those people are likely part of a good group👍🏻”  –EDOUGH

“Look at my profile I’m a group hogger…There’s a competition for groups called “sing olympics” right now, and u can find a lot of amazing groups participating, search through their hashtag #SO16Team and u’ll find these amazing group songs entry!” –WeezerDen

“Smule’s new hashtag link feature will allow you to click on a hashtag and find others who have identified themselves or their performances with these hashtags. But if you are looking for groups to JOIN, then the only way to do that is spend time exploring Smule user profiles. I find someone I enjoy singing with, and then I look at duets they have sung with other people to find more singers that I might enjoy.” –Hoonhans_DavidK

Tuesday Tips: Storage Space

I don’t want to delete past recordings – how do you all manage your storage?

Today’s tip has a simple solution, but it might not be so obvious. Once your start using Sing! more, you may experience shortage on storage space, so it’s good to know to either: (1) clear your cache or (2) delete and re-download from time to time. This might be helpful for other apps, too! Thanks to our Smule Inspire Team for figuring this out!

“Mine was taking 12.6 GB and I deleted and downloaded again. Now 0” –tamara_hope

“You can also go into settings while in Smule and “Clear your cache” and that should do the same trick.” –Hoonhans_DavidK

Smule Spotlight: Christine_TV

 christine
Christine_TV is a singer and a mother based out of  Sydney, Australia. Christine loves the stage, she was a ballarina until she was about 18, however she singing has always been her #1! Alongside singing, she is also interested in in science, psychology and literature. And if she could go back in time for a week, she would pick the Victorian Era. (Great choice)!
She is a member of TheVoices_TV, OneLoveOfficial and TrueEpicSounds, where she sings with other incredibly talented members! Join her! 🙂

1. Username and real name:
Christine_TV
2. Favorite Performance:
After years of not singing, Smule! has given me so much joy. I can’t pick one; but I loved singing All I ask, Orange Coloured Sky and Ready for Love. All for very different reasons.

Also getting to sing with such talented people from around the world every day, cannot pick one!
3. Fun fact about you:
I was a performer for many years – singing, dancing and acting. I have a beautiful husband – Cameron, son – William and furbaby – Charlie. I LOVE animals (more than most people!).
4. What makes you excited to Sing?
Everything! When I am happy I want to sing, when I am sad I want to sing, when I am angry… that is the beauty of music and singing gives you that outlet. When I sing the joy it brings my soul I cannot put into words – I would sing 24/7 if I could. Smule! has brought back singing into my life and I can’t tell you what that has meant.
5. If you could be a superhero, what would you want your superpowers to be?
Probably a shape shifter like Mystique in X-men.
6. Who is your biggest inspiration?
My inspiration is my son. I gave up singing years ago and since he was born he’s brought music back in my life – I sing nursery rhymes for him all day long and I want him to know you can achieve your dreams and do what you love in life. My husband and my family (Dad, Mum, brother Jonathan, Nanna, Nannu) have always encouraged me to sing and they now are listening to my Smule! Songs everyday.

Smule User Spotlight: Jon

Jon is a new(er) member to Smule, but that doesn’t make him newbie. He is a huge part of the community as he is connected with many groups like Sing Republic, who Alimone_SR is also apart of. She says, “Jon has been such a great friend and musical inspiration since I met him. He’s so supportive of his sing ‘family’ and truly loves being able to share his love for music with so many other talented singers on the app. He also surprises me with how versatile he is. One minute he’s singing Sinatra and the next he’s jamming out to some Aerosmith! I had the pleasure of meeting him at a Smule meet up in February and he blew my socks off with his live karaoke performances! Truly a wonderful guy.”

Favorite Performance:

It’s always super hard to choose a favorite performance on the app, but it has to be with @ALimone_SR. Her amazing voice, grit and love she puts into singing is incredible! We just did a cover of “Love In An Elevator” by Aerosmith and rocked it!! It gave us a chance to step out of our comfort zone and shred an 80s tune!

Check it out here:

Fun Fact about you:

I’m a huge nerd! My favorite movie(s) are the Back To The Future Trilogy and Star Wars Movies. I collect comics, play video games and have been known to visit a Comic-Con or two.
