How to get the Video Styles if you don’t yet have access?!

How to get the Video Styles if you don’t yet have access?!

Ever wondered what it would be like if we could create music video styled videos on Smule? Well, we are getting there with VIDEO STYLES – a new feature on Sing! That allows you to be more expressive with videos. These videos are a combination of colors, transitions, effects, animations all while timing perfectly to the music! Right now, there are three different pre-made styles you can select from: #RioStyle, #OsloStyle, and #PetraStyle

We are slowly rolling out this feature to users, however we don’t want to overload our video processing technology by giving this feature to everyone.

Here are ways YOU can do right now to get the effect!

1) You can search #RioStyle, #OsloStyle, and #PetraStyle in the search box to find cool duets you can join, and the new styles will be applied.

2) You can join some power users right now!

Keep an eye out for upcoming video styles playlist and more videos! 🙂

Smule fuels more music in the world with $54 million capital raise led by Tencent

Smule is on a mission to change the way the world experiences music. With 52 million monthly active users creating over 20 million songs every day, Smule is transforming the landscape of music from one of passive listening to one of collaborative creation and expressive sharing. On Smule, users are inspired to engage with music at its roots, as a creative, social and interactive medium, and collaborate with and listen to all types of music, with anyone from anywhere in the world. With this vision in mind, Smule is taking the next step to scale the platform with $54 million in a strategic financing round led by Tencent, which joins existing investors including Adams Street Partners, Bessemer Ventures, Floodgate, Franklin Templeton, Granite Ventures, and Shasta Ventures.

Tencent shares Smule’s passion for music and for connecting people. Through its “Connection” strategy, Tencent has been cultivating a vibrant ecosystem, enabling users to communicate, socialize and enjoy content and services efficiently on its integrated platforms with music as its key focus.

“Tencent believes that music is universal and Smule is pioneering a new and unique way for people to create and engage with music. Our investment in Smule will expand our exposure to the promising potential of the digital music market,” said Poshu Yeung, Tencent’s Vice President of International Business.

This is all driven by a deeply social global community where users are creating more music in the world every day, with other users and major global artists like TrainEd SheeranShawn MendesRizky FebianLuis Fonsi, and Christian Nodal.

Most recently, Smule debuted its first ever national broadcast commercial for their Smule Sing! app featuring the Grammy-award winning rock band Train singing along to their new global hit single “Play That Song” with some of the app’s biggest users. The app and commercial hope to move listeners beyond passive listening and into participating in music creation.

“We are always looking for creative and innovative ways to connect with our fans,” said Pat Monahan of Train. “Smule allows us to engage with our fans on a deeper level and we can’t wait to see all the amazing duets of ‘Play That Song’ on Smule Sing!”

Android Video Filters

Android users, you asked and we heard. You can now use video filters to make your videos more expressive & creative! For starters, the number one feedback we got was to have video FX features across all capable Android phones. This will add more dynamic to your video or just make it more fun!

How it works?

  1. Open the Sing app!
  2. Click the video option when you are making a performance
  3. When creating a video performance, swipe across the screen to enable sweet visual effects like Selfie, Sepia, Comic, Black and White or Vintage.

Use the the selfie mode for better light exposure, or the flight club for a dark feel, sepia for a 70’s look or keep it old school with black and white. Match the mood of the song with filters and share them with friends!

Check out some sweet performances that has surfaced from our community using the filter feature.

New Sing! Search

New Sing! Search

We’re super-duper excited to introduce you to the completely revamped NEW SEARCH.

Why did it take us so long to do this?  Well, believe it or not, you amazing, happy, inspiring Sing!ers are creating over 2 MILLION songs, recordings, invites EVERY SINGLE DAY.  That’s a whole lotta music to search through (thank you very much).  To be honest, our server team has been working tirelessly on building this new Search throughout this year and incorporating many of your feedback and ideas along the way.  And we are happy to report, that no server engineers or servers had a meltdown during this time.

So, without further ado, here’s a walkthrough of the new Search features!

1) One Search! Search all four types of content (songs, singers, invites, recordings) at once

When you tap on the magnifying glass and type in a search string, you will be presented with top matches of songs, singers, invites, and recordings on the same screen. They are grouped and labeled so you can easily navigate to the items that interest you. Tap “See All” to drill down deeper into each section if you want to see more results.

Example: search for “charlie puth”

2) Search for specific combinations like multiple people and their collabs

Type in multiple usernames or real names, and you can find collabs done by two performers. Type in a username and a song name, and you can find recordings or invites of that song performed by that user or songs arranged by that user.

1. Collabs by multiple performers: “xyego xgotti”

2. Recording of a song by a specific singer: “@erikliss1 em rossi”

3. An arrangement of a song by a specific user: “jeff_yourmusic celion dion”

3) Better autocomplete

When you begin typing your search string, you will no longer see a large number of autocomplete suggestions listed in alphabetical order. Autocomplete suggestions are now shown by relevance that predicts who or what you might be searching for.

Example: type in “jus”

4) Search provides more relevant results

Similar to autocomplete suggestions, search results are now also displayed by relevance, taking into consideration factors such as popularity to provide better matches. Moving forward, you will start finding more of what you are actually looking for with less effort.

Example: search for “jessie j”

5) View recent search history

This feature allows you to see your most recent search history and quickly repeat searches.  This is one of our personal favorites.

So what are you waiting for???  Stop reading this blog and start searching!  Tell us about what you find.  Tell us about what you can’t find.  As you know, we are always working to improve, and we are always here and listening for your feedback.  Let us know!

* Sing Android users, we love you, and it’s coming soon.

** We will be rolling out the new Search to groups of Sing iOS users in order to work out kinks and make sure our servers don’t melt, so don’t worry if you don’t see it yet, you’ll see it soon!
